Our Facility
Gemaco’s flagship operation is its Recycling Asphalt Shingle (RAS) Station. Centrally located on Annacis Island this facility serves the Greater Vancouver Area.
At this facility residential asphalt shingles, either roof tear-off shingles (TOS) or manufacturer remnants or rejects are delivered and processed to specification using a state of the art Rotochopper RGI Shingle Grinder.
Two high quality asphalt based products are manufactured
- MSA, Manufactured Shingle Additive, used in asphalt paving mixtures
- PEF, Process Engineered Fuel used in industrial burners such as cement kilns
It is the only facility of its kind in the region and has capacity to process and redirect 60,000 tonne per year of asphalt shingles from regional landfills. For every one tonne of MSA used about 2 barrels virgin asphalt cement (bitumen) and 60 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent is saved.
Gemaco also provides contract shingle grinding services for other collection sites in the Western Canadian Provinces and United States. Gemaco is proud to offer “constructive solutions” for this 100% re-useable material.
